Incident Of Saharanpur, Most Of The Rescued Labourers Belonged To Scheduled Castes And Minority Communities
Saharanpur News : On the complaint of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Saharanpur District Administration has freed 55 bonded labourers. These 55 Bonded Labourers who were freed from a brick kiln include 22 children and 33 adults. All of them were working here for the last 5 months.
Let us tell you that under the Bachpan Bachao Andolan, a campaign is being run against Child Labour and Bonded Labour across the Country. During this campaign so far a large number of Child Labourers and Bonded Labourers have been freed from different parts of the Country.

A Labourer Had Complained To Bachpan Bachao Andolan
On the complaint of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Saharanpur District Administration freed a total of 55 bonded labourers, including 22 child labourers and 33 adults, from a brick kiln in Kumharhera of Sarsawa Police Station. Most of the rescued labourers belong to Scheduled Castes and Minority Communities of Saharanpur and Shamli Districts. All of them were working here for the last five months.
A labourer working at a brick kiln had complained to the Association for Voluntary Action, known as Bachpan Bachao Andolan, about Bonded Labour at the kiln. All the rescued children were presented before the CWC on the spot and after counselling, all the children were sent home along with their families.

Kiln Owner Had Promised To Send Minors To School
The rescued Bonded Labourers told that Haji Salim Qadir, owner of CBF Brick Field, and Amjad, who was working as a clerk at the kiln, had assured them that their minor children would be provided school and medical facilities along with all the facilities like electricity, toilet etc.
It is alleged that far from providing these facilities, after some time the wages given to them every fortnight were also stopped and when they asked for money, the goons of the kiln owner beat up the workers. The goons of the kiln owner banned the workers from coming out of the kiln and kept forcing them to do forced labour by claiming false advance dues.

A Labourer Complained After Coming Out Secretly
Finally, somehow a Bonded Labourer named Nazim secretly came out of the kiln on March 14 and contacted BBA and submitted his complaint. Coming into immediate action, BBA sent this complaint to all the concerned Departments of the State including National Human Rights Commission, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The Uttar Pradesh Government immediately swung into action and the District Magistrate immediately formed a team to take action. After this, the Labour Department, Police Department and all other Departments took joint action and raided the kiln and freed all these Bonded Labourers including children. Police is taking legal action and the process of registering FIR has started.

Director Of Bachpan Bachao Andolan Expressed Satisfaction
Manish Sharma, Director of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, expressed joy and satisfaction over this action and thanked the Uttar Pradesh Government and the District Administration.
He said that the seriousness with which top officials and institutions working for the safety of children and women took this complaint and the speed with which they took action is enough to prove that the Uttar Pradesh Government is very sensitive to free up the the State from child labour and prevent exploitation of children.
He said that such action is a message to those who are still involved in criminal acts like Child Labour and Bonded Labour. He said that despite the Government’s strict stance and policy of not tolerating Child Labour at any cost, Child Labour is still being used in some industries like brick kilns. Therefore, the Government needs to increase the scope of monitoring this.
